Shopping is a cultural experience. Sainsbury's grocery store is actually very similar to groceries I've patronized in the U.S. The big difference is that I'm doing it on foot here. Because I need to walk to and from the store, I need to bring a cart.
This cart is actually very useful. It's big enough to meet my needs and it's easy to maneuver.
Getting to the store involves walking along the river to the Diglis Bridge, some ways south of the flat, and then north almost to the Worcester Bridge. There's a paved path that passes by a number of athletic fields and then a hop, skip and a jump across a road and behind a path to the grocery store.
As usual, the path along the river offered some lovely views.
This area is a site for salmon fishing in the spring time. The only people who are allowed to fish, must belong to a private fishing concern.
The two specks on the wire are herons. Very cool sight!
A slight turn to the right revealed the Diglis Bridge--the twin of the Sabrina Bridge a couple of miles up the river.
This was my favorite image of the day. The two specks at the center of the picture are a lovely elderly couple arm-in-arm walking along the river path. It's heartening to see a lasting love.
There are other paths to follow on days to come. I love these signs describing the kinds of flora and fauna one might encounter along the paths through the meadows on the far side of the river.
This is my favorite sign of the day--an homage to Holy Cow! Press.
The walk was long, which suggests future shopping trips will have to be weekend events.
The blackberry bushes provided a little reward near the end of the trip.
I LOVE "Bull in Field"
