The second Worcester flood

The Thanksgiving weekend produced a prodigious amount of rain throughout England in a short time.  As noted in earlier posts, it took me somewhat by surprise to realize how much water there was.  A lot of it came from upstream in the Severn.  The Monday after Thanksgiving there didn't seem to be any easy way in to campus, so we walked around taking pictures.
This is at the entrance to Harry Davis Court.  The fence on the left borders the walkway by the river.
The water was threatening to come up to the building.  It brought out the "news" guys.
It's hard to see the canal in this photo.
The swans seemed to like it.
Even a few days after the flood, some of the paths I normally took on my way to work were impassable.

The water around the benches and rubbish bins shows how bad it was.

The race track was a lake.
In fact, the rowers were practicing on "Lake" race track because the river was too dangerous.  The water was much too fast.

The Hylton Road was in pretty bad shape as well.

It took about two weeks for everything to return to a semblance of normal, but the rains have started again.

By the way, did you know Worcester is one of the driest places in England?
